A Proud History Across 140 Years

Established in 1883, Moonee Valley Racecourse was described as that ‘pretty little course on the slope’. From racing icon to modern-day neighbourhood, Moonee Valley Park builds on the site’s rich racing history that spans over 141 years.

1882

William Samuel Cox leases a farm belonging to John F. Feehan for the purpose of establishing a racetrack.

1883

Moonee Valley Racecourse is established, with the first race held on 15th September, featuring nine horses.

1922

The Cox Plate is inaugurated – later becoming one of the foremost events in international racing history.

1930

Phar Lap, Australia’s most famous racehorse, wins his first Cox Plate.

1931

The first Tote building was erected at a cost of £60,000.

1998

Moonee Valley pioneers the introduction of thoroughbred night racing in Australia.

2019

Moonee Valley Park is launched, defining a brand-new era for Moonee Valley Racecourse.

2020

Tote Park delivered, the first completed amenity within Moonee Valley Park. Feehan Row Homes and Terraces North construction commenced.

2021

Feehan Row North Delivered. First Residents move into Moonee Valley Park.

2023

Thomas Street apartments and Feehan Row South were delivered, including Maple Walk and the Residents’ Garden. The planning permit was approved for the redevelopment of the Moonee Valley Racing Club Grandstand and Clubhouse precincts.

2025

Trackside House and Stonepine House were delivered marking another significant milestone for the precinct, welcoming 330 new residents and their families to Moonee Valley Park.
